HA NOI (VNS)– Plans for next year's National Tourism Year in Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) are based on a local emblem – wild sunflowers.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said the theme Dai Ngan Tay Nguyen (Mountains and Forests of Central Highlands) reflected the landscape of the region.
He said the event would promote the beauty of traditional cultures and hopefully attract investment to the region.
Da quy (wild sunflowers) have been selected as the symbol for National Tourism Year event as it flourishes in all Central Highlands provinces.
The Central Highlands province of Lam Dong's Da Lat City will host the fifth Da Lat Flower Festival and a ceremony commemorating the 120th anniversary of the founding of the city.
Seven tours to explore the city will be part of the celebrations.
Other events will be held in Dac Lac, Dac Nong, Gia Lai, and Kon Tum provinces including a brocade festival, a fashion show of traditional ethnic costumes, an International Gong Festival and an International Street Arts Festival.
Crowds are expected at the elephant races in Don Village and boat races in Krong Ana District in Dac Lac Province.
The Ba Na tribal group's Communal House Festival in Kon Tum Province is expected to be of special interest to local and overseas tourists.
In May, a workshop was held to prepare for National Tourism Year in Da Lat. – VNS
