HCM CITY — The HCM City Ballet and Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will present a chamber music and ballet performance by young and veteran talents on Monday at the HCM City Opera House.

The concert will open with music by Franz Liszt, a Hungarian pianist and composer of the 19th century. Pianist Joo Eun Young will perform Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No 6, which is divided into three main sections.

Joo, a graduate of the Vienna Music Conservatory in 2000, honed her skills at the Gnessin Music Institute in Moscow. Her debut CD album, recorded at the 1 Abbey Road Studio in London, was released in 2008.

She now works as a music lecturer for the HCM City Music Conservatory.

Joo will continue to perform together clarinettist Dao Nhat Quang and cellist Nguyen Tan Anh, playing Beethoven's Trio in B flat, op.11 for clarinet, Cello&Piano.

Brhams' Sonata No.3 for Violin&Piano will be played by People's Artist-violinist Ta Bon and his younger colleague, female pianist Ly Giai Hoa.

In George Gershwin's An American in Paris (for 2 pianos), Hoa and pianist Ly Giai Nien will showcase their talent.

A graduate of the Tchaikovsky Music Conservatory, 70-year-old violinist Bon has performed widely at home and abroad, including Asian, European and Latin American countries.

He has trained a number of talented violinists during his 40 years of teaching at two of the country's leading music schools, the Ha Noi Music Conservatory and the HCM City Music Conservatory.

He was deputy director of the Ha Noi Music Conservatory, a member of the jury of the Tchaikovsky International Violin Competition in 1975, 1982 and 1986, and of Bach International Violin Competition in 1980 and 1984.

The second part of the programme will feature contemporary ballet performances by HBSO dancers.

Phi Diep, Duc Nhuan, Quynh Ly, and Hai Anh will perform Dream Puzzles, a modern dance piece set to music by young composers Nguyen Manh Duy Linh and Vu Viet Anh. The dance is choreographed by Nguyen Phuc Hung and Nguyen Phuc Hai, who have returned home after training courses overseas. The event will begin at 8pm next Monday at the HCM City Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square, District 1. Tickets, from VND150,000 (US$6.5) to 250,000 each, are available at the theatre's box office. — VNS
