HA NOI (VNS) — The 11th charity art programme titled One Heart – One World, will be held in Ha Noi on April 13, in anticipation of Viet Nam's National Day for People with Disabilities (April 18).

The annual event will be broadcast live on VTV2 in a bid to raise funds for vocational training and jobs for disabled people and orphans, said Nguyen Dinh Lieu, President of the Association in Support of Vietnamese Handicapped and Orphans.

Lieu also said the programme aims to honour outstanding disabled people and orphans across the country and call on sectors, organisations and individuals to help them overcome difficulties.

Over the past decade, the association has used the donations to organise many activities to help improve the lives of both groups and integrate them with local communities.

Despite the efforts, many orphaned and disabled citizens still did not have access to vital healthcare services, education and employment, he said.

This year, the association will drive the implementation of six key programmes to address the inequalities. The initiatives will focus on rehabilitating 1,200 physically disabled people in the community, conduct cataract surgeries for 8,000 blind people, provide vocational training and jobs for 1,500 people, and provide 5,000 wheelchairs to those in need. A further 15,000 scholarships and bicycles will be awarded to local orphans. — VNS
