Charity tour celebrates Dien Bien Phu Victory


Ten teams of two people from Viet Nam, Russia, Australia and the UK will take part in a charity caravan trip through Viet Nam, Cambodia and Laos to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the victory of Dien Bien Phu and the 39th anniversary of Liberation Day.

HCM CITY (VNS)— Ten teams of two people from Viet Nam, Russia, Australia and the UK will take part in a charity caravan trip through Viet Nam, Cambodia and Laos to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the victory of Dien Bien Phu and the 39th anniversary of Liberation Day.

The Mekong Rally 2014 will depart from HCM City on April 27, and head for cities along the Mekong River, including Kratie in Cambodia, and Pakse, Vientiane, and Luang Prabang in Laos.

The 2,400km trip will finish in Dien Bien Phu City on May 6, a day before the ceremony for the Dien Bien Phu victory.

Along the way, the participants will raise funds for conservation of endangered Irrawaddy dolphins in Kratie, Free the Bears in Luang Prabang, and Com Co Thit (Only Rice is Not Enough) programme to provide food, stationery and warm clothes for needy children in the northwest region of Viet Nam.. — VNS
