Chess masters hope to win title

HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese masters dominated in the 15th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships held at the Cotai Sands Central in Macau after bagging three out of four top positions.

Dang Hoang Son, Nguyen Anh Khoi and Nguyen Thi Mai Hung rank second, third and fourth, respectively, after the eighth round of the Boys' U20 category held yesterday (Jun 8).

Among the three, Son has gained as much as six points as the leader Bersamina Paulo of the Philippines.

The Vietnamese will play Liu Xiangyi of Singapore in the final match, while Paulo will face Michael Owen from Indonesia.

The 12-year-old Khoi has pocketed 5.5 points and will face Indonesian Hafiz Arif Abdul in the next round.

Hung with 4.5 points will face Filipino Ruaya Virgen Gil.

The rapid chess competitions are also being organised simultaneously. — VNS
