HA NOI (VNS)  — Cinematheque will screen the verismo operas Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci on Sunday.

In the late 1800s, more operas were composed based on principles of French naturalism, called verismo in the Italian tradition. They usually centre on everyday problems.

Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci are short, one-act operas usually performed together as Cav/Pag. Composeds in the 1890s, both tell tales of jilted lovers who seek revenge on their faithless significant others.

The operas will be screened in the original Italian with English subtitles at 3pm and 7pm.

Hanoi Cinematheque is located at 22A Hai Ba Trung Street, at the end of the alley leading to Artist's Hotel. A donation of VND60,000 is suggested. — VNS
