HCM CITY (VNS) — A film screening week will open the 19th Viet Nam Film Festival in HCM City on December 1.
Organised biennially by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the five-day event has attracted filmmakers and producers from 50 studios and companies across the country.
Filmmakers have sent 34 feature films, 42 documentaries and three animations to the event.
Many films focus on the history, culture and daily life of urban residents, particularly youth.
Documentaries from leading studios such as the Viet Nam Film Studio and Ho Chi Minh Television's Film Studio focus on education, health and road traffic issues.
The juries will present Golden Lotus and Silver Lotus prizes for the best film, best director, best scriptwriter, best cameraman, best actor and best actress. A special prize for the most favourite film voted by audiences will be also included.
Three seminars and exhibitions focusing on film making and marketing will be featured during the event.
The festival's opening ceremony will begin at 8pm at the Hoa Binh Theatre. It will be televised live on Viet Nam Television's VTV1 and VTV6 channels. — VNS
