VINH LONG — HCM City's Le Van Duan won the second stage of the ADC-Vinh Long television international men's cycling tournament yesterday with Vinh Long's cyclist Bui Minh Thuy keeping the overall lead with four hours 41 seconds.
The 169km stage, from Vinh Long city to Tra Vinh City and back to Can Tho City witnessed the competition between teams of ADC-Vinh Long Television and CN from Netherlands.
However, Lao Wisut Kasiyaphat and Dutch Darren Low ran away from other cyclists after the group raced nearly 100km. The two cyclists took it in turn to lead and separate from others about one minute.
Cyclists of ADC-Vinh Long sped up to shorten the distance with the two leading participants and caught up with them when being 30km away from the finish.
Duan from Bao Ve Thuc Vat Sai Gon took the lead with 4:06.24, followed by Tran Van Quyen from Quan Khu 7, Mai Nguyen Hung from the same team, Do Tuan Anh from Duoc Domesco Dong Thap and Thuy from the ADC-Vinh Long.
Thuy, who rides for the host team, finished the first after the second stage. He won an individual time trial on Vo Van Kiet Street of Can Tho City with four hours 19 seconds.
Mai Nguyen Hung of Bao Ve Thuc Vat Sai Gon takes the second place with 4:00.48 and Nguyen Tan Hoai of Duoc Domesco Dong Thap followed with 4:00.51.
The teams continue pedalling the 120km third stage, from Can Tho city to Soc Trang city and return, today. — VNS
