HCM CITY (VNS) — The sixth southern folk singers' contest will begin today in the southern province of Dong Thap.

Twelve teams from the south, comprising 250 professional and amateur artists, will compete in the event.

Head of the contest's organising board Lam Van Tu said the event had attracted several new names and that there would be prizes for junior singers.

The best performers will be selected to compete in the final round of the national folk singers' contest to be held in the central province of Nghe An on May 16. — VNS
