HÀ NỘI — The Asian U17 & U23 Wrestling Championships 2025 has opened in Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province featuring about 1000 athletes, marking a milestone in Việt Nam sports.
The U23 competition will run till June 22, followed by the U17 event from June 23 to 28.
Wrestlers from 24 countries and regions are taking part in men's free style and Greco-Roman, women's free style and beach wresting disciplines until June 28.
"This is a historic sporting event when Việt Nam hosts the Asian Wrestling Championship for the first time," said President of the Asian Wrestling Federation Mohamad Awamleh.
"The tournament is of great significance in developing the wrestling movement in Asia, and is also an opportunity for athletes to exchange, learn and accumulate valuable experience."
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Trần Thị Thu Hiền said its Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province's honour to host the championship.
She expressed her hope that when international sports tournaments were held locally, with a large number of athletes from many countries and territories, it would contribute to the development of the local economy and promoting the image of the province in particular and Việt Nam in general to the world. — VNS
