HA NOI — More than 300 sophisticated bamboo and rattan products are on display at an ongoing exhibition at the Viet Nam Culture and Arts Exhibition Centre in Ha Noi.

Hosted by the cultural ministry, the exhibition aims to search for creative handicraft designs as well as honour the traditional craft.

More than 140 craftsmen from traditional villages across the country have sent products for the exhibition. The display also includes designs by fine arts students from HCM City and Ha Noi.

Household items such as trays, lamps, lampshades, beds and furniture are all on show.

HCM City-based architect Vo Trong Nghia was awarded the top prize for his infamous architectural designs made from bamboo.

His designs include the Viet Nam Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010, the Bamboo Wing restaurant and bar complex at the Flamingo Dai Lai Resort in Vinh Phuc Province, and the wNw [Wind and Water] Bar and Cafe in Binh Duong Province.

Bamboo Wing won the International Architecture Award from the American Chicago Athenaeum – Museum of Architecture and Design in 2010.

Products made by Viet Nam's different ethnic groups on loan from the Museum of Vietnamese Ethnic Culture are also among the items being showcased at the exhibition.

The exhibition is open to the public until January 2 at 2 Hoa Lu Street, Ha Noi. — VNS
