Cultural events mark Liberation Day celebrations

The 2014 Ha Long Carnival took place in Ha Long city, the northern province of Quang Ninh, on the night of April 30 with the theme "Quang Ninh – Convergence and Pervasion". The carnival's highlight was a parade by nearly 4,000 local and foreign artists, dancers and models, and the focus on the province's culture, tourism and cuisine, particularly the celebration of Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO-recognised World Natural Heritage site.

Fireworks were launched in the central province of Nghe An on April 30, starting a tourism season at the Cua Lo beach this year. Located about 16 kilometres to the east of Vinh city and about 300 kilometres to the south of Ha Noi, Cua Lo beach has a 10.2-kilometre-long coastline and is becoming an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists. ─ Photo Nguyen Van Nhat

A music show entitled "Songs of Victory" was held at September 23 Park in HCM City to celebrate the 39th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Viet Nam and the 128th May Day on the night of April 30.

About 500 gong artisans belonging to ethnic minority groups in the Central Highland province of Lam Dong gathered for a gong culture festival in Lac Duong District from April 29 to 30. There was a wide range of attractive activities, especially contests to identify the sound of various gongs and about the local gong culture. The event also honoured gong artisans who make active contributions towards the preservation and development of the special art form. ─ Photo Dang Tuan
