HA NOI (VNS) — Pham Cao Cuong defeated Chinese Taipei Chou Tien Chen 21-18, 21-14 in the men's singles event yesterday to enter the second round of the Badminton Asia Championship in South Korea.
Cuong is the only Vietnamese representative to enter the second round of the ongoing Championship.
The qualifier will meet former world No. 1 Lin Dan of China in the second round. Dan beat the tournament's No 7 seed Kadambi Srikanth of India 21-7, 21-14.
Yesterday saw many surprises as a number of male top seeds were sent back home after just one match, including No 1 Ponsana Boonsak of Thailand and No 3 Nguyen Tien Minh of Viet Nam. — VNS
