HA NOI (VNS) — Home-grown badminton player Pham Cao Cuong has jumped 118 spots in the May world rankings to 242, according to the Badminton World Federation.
Cuong entered the second round of the men's singles draw in lastmonth Asian Badminton Championships in South Korea, adding 2,720 points to his pocket to make it 6128,9 for the new position.
The bump makes Cuong Viet Nam's second highest ranked player behind world No 10 Nguyen Tien Minh.
Cuong's career has seen a noticeable boost following a year he spent training with coach Asep Suharno in Indonesia.
Hia teammate Nguyen Hoang Nam ranked at 354th.
On the women's side, Viet Nam's No 1 Vu Thi Trang jumped four places to the 82nd spot, with Le Thu Huyen coming in at 117. Pham Nhu Thao, is Viet Nam's third highest at 301. — VNS
