Tran Van Quyen of Military 7 won the second stage of the Nam Ky Khoi Nghia cycling tour yesterday in a time of 5:24.07.

The 205km stage from Can Tho City to Soc Trang City and back to Vinh Long Province's Vung Liem District was tight race, with riders looking to block yellow jersey holder Le Van Dong of Can Tho.

With 70km to go, four riders from Eximbank HCM City 2 and 12 other cyclists broke away from the bunch. Quyen sprinted to finish first, followed by Nguyen Thanh Tam of An Giang Plant Protection and Nguyen Van Tai of Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap 1.

Finishing in the leading group, Tran Thanh Nhanh of Eximbank HCM City 2 took the yellow jersey with a combined time of 8:52.48. Nguyen Hoang Sang of ADC-Vinh Long Television 2 and Quyen are in second and third.

Today, they will pedal the 142km third and final stage from Vinh Long City to HCM City's Hoc Mon District.-VNS
