HA NOI (VNS)– The Viet Nam Football Federation has invited Vietnamese Czech midfielder Michal Nguyen to train with the national team.

The national squad will meet together for the first time this year on January 23 in Ha Noi.

Nguyen, 24, currently plays for Czech 2 Liga side Banik Most. He was raised in the Czech Republic by his Vietnamese father and Czech mother.

He is 1.79m tall and can also operate at the heart of defence. He started playing football at an early age and was coached at Spartak Praha's training centre, where he won many admirers.

Mai Duc Chung, a member of Viet Nam's National Coaching Council, has met with Nguyen and observed him play. He has praised the player's technique and confirmed he could potentially play a key role for the national team.

Nguyen's father confirmed that his son holds a Vietnamese passport already and said he has long hoped for the opportunity to play for Viet Nam.

VFF officials have declared that they always welcome talented players living overseas to return to play for the country.– VNS
