DA NANG (VNS) — Four foreign players will face the final test in a friendly game this week to determine who SHB Da Nang football team will select for the upcoming V-League season.
Bui Xuan Hoa from the SHB Da Nang Sport Stock Company told Viet Nam News yesterday that Ivan Pecha of Slovakia, Melquiades Gomez of Spain, Alabi of France and Bernardo of Brazil have been training with the team for past two weeks in Da Nang.
They have been listed to appear in the Binh Duong Television (BTV) Cup friendly football tournament this week.
"We have been working with them and will soon decide who will be recruited after the tournament in Binh Duong," Hoa said.
The team's coach, Le Huynh Duc, has his eye trained on Ivan Pecha, 28, the 1.87m high centre defender.
Pecha has played for teams in Slovakia, Azerbaijan, Lithuania and Romania. He also debuted for BATE Borisov of Belarus in the 2008-09 European Champions League.
Spanish born Melquiades Gomez, 31, played for Barcelona's reserve team, Real Betis, and V-League's Dong Nai team. He scored six goals for Dong Nai last season.
SHB Da Nang have lacked top players after Argentine striker Gaston Sebastian Merlo left the team when his contract expired early this year. Three key youngsters, Phan Thanh Hung, Cao Cuong and Ha Minh Tuan, were lost in a transfer to Quang Nam.
Da Nang are in Group B with Ayeyawady of Myanmar, Capiaxa of Brazil and Quang Ninh Coal in BTV Cup. — VNS
