A grand exhibition at Viet Nam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts (VECCA) will introduce visitors to the cultural and spiritual essence of the Hong (Red) River Delta, the cradle of ancient Vietnamese civilisation, in honour of Vietnamese Cultural Heritage Day (November 23).

HA NOI (VNS) – A grand exhibition at Viet Nam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts (VECCA) will introduce visitors to the cultural and spiritual essence of the Hong (Red) River Delta, the cradle of ancient Vietnamese civilisation, in honour of Vietnamese Cultural Heritage Day (November 23).

Themed Discover the Red River Civilisation, the festival aims to spotlight the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the region and advertise the image of Vietnamese land and people, attracting more visitors to the country, said the centre's deputy director, Nguyen Thi Nga.

In addition to artefacts from the Dong Son era, the exhibition will display indigenous products from cities and provinces in the delta including Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho and Bac Ninh.

Works on show will include bronze drums, tools, handmade weapons and various items of jewellery, as well as historical documents related to the costumes, customs and spiritual activities of people at the time.

Thirteen artisans from different provinces and cities in the region will bring to the event colourful kites with flutes attached, a favourite toy of children in the Red River Delta. When they are released into the windy sky, the sound from the flutes accompanies their flight.

The festival is open through Saturday at 2 Hoa Lu Street, Ha Noi. -- VNS
