HCM CITY (VNS) — Le Huynh Duc has talked the talk. But can his SHB Da Nang walk the walk? They are capable of beating any team, the coach boasted ahead of a trip to Binh Duong tomorrow for the quarter-finals of the National Cup.
Da Nang, who won the event in 2009 under Duc, crushed Dong Thap 5-2 in the last 16 to set up a clash with Binh Duong, who did a good job to knock out Song Lam Nghe An.
Despite his team being six points behind Binh Duong in the V-League table after playing one match more, Duc said no gap in class exists between the two.
"We have confidence to take on any opponent," Duc, who also steered his team to two V-League titles since taking over in 2008, said.
He also pointed out that his team have a good head-to-head record against Binh Duong.
Da Nang won 3-2 when the two teams met in the last 16 of the Cup last year. They also have a better record in the V-League, winning thrice and losing only once in their five most recent meetings.
However, the loss came in their most recent head-to-head match in the V-League, and they also suffered defeats against Nghe An and T&T in their two latest away games.
The Da Nang-based club's last match was at home against ambitious Thanh Hoa when they scored an impressive 4-2 win.
Binh Duong lost 2-1 to Than Quang Ninh last Sunday.
Quang Ninh, who got a massive morale booster with the win against the second-placed team, are likely to take the confidence into their quarter-final against Hoang Anh Gia Lai on the same day.
In a third match, V-League newcomers QNK Quang Nam will travel to Hai Phong to play the home team.
In the last quarter-final, on Tuesday, the First Division side Dak Lak, who pulled off the biggest surprise in the last 16 by beating Ha Noi T&T on penalties, will take on Dong Tam Long An at home in Buon Ma Thuot city. — VNS
