HCM CITY (VNS) — The Viet Nam Designer Fashion Week 2016, which commences tonight, will present about 20 collections of emerging Vietnamese designers and brands.

The event will be held from December 14 to 19 in HCM City, aimed at promoting connections between designers and buyers.

"The week is not only being held to launch new collections, but also as a destination for Vietnamese designers and buyers," the week's creative director Huong Colour said.

"We also target the establishment of the Viet Nam Designers Association to support them in their businesses in Viet Nam and in other countries. The association will provide scholarships to young talented designers."

The Viet Nam Designers Association will be launched after the week-long event.

About 200 designs will be presented by 60 models tonight and tomorrow at 6.30pm at the HCM Television Studio, and at 3pm on Thursday at Celadon City, Tan Phu District, HCM City.

After the fashion show, the new collections will be displayed for purchase at Rex Hotel, District 1, on December 18 and 19.

"This will become a new shopping habit and promote wholesale buying in the Vietnamese market. It will provide closer access to the international market," Huong Colour said.

"We want to promote commercialisation and internationalisation of Vietnamese brands."

The Viet Nam Designer Fashion Week will organise seminars for the exchange of experiences between experts and businessmen in the fashion industry.

Designers Ha Linh Thu, Li Lam, Do Manh Cuong and LEA's, besides Rue Des Charts and Maschio will attend the events. The Viet Nam Designer Fashion Week will be held biannually in the fall and winter and the spring and summer seasons. — VNS
