HA NOI (VNS) — The French quartet Fayçal Salhi will perform a repertoire of world music and jazz on Thursday night at L'Espace.
The band's founder Fayçal Salhi comes from a family of musicians, but took up music only at the age of 18.
His current novel music style has reportedly been inspired by the rural melodies of Andalousie that have influenced him since his childhood.
Salhi released two albums, Sur les Routes de l'Orient (On the Routes of the Orient) and Timgad, before recording the Elwene with his quartet in 2011.
In addition, Salhi has composed music for the 2007 movie La Maison Jaune (The Yellow House) by Algerian director Amor Hakkar.
At Thursday's concert, the quartet will play modern jazz songs with Arab-Andalusian rhythms and tones. Alongside the Middle Eastern oud (a pear-shaped string instrument) played by Salhi, modern western instruments such as the saxophone and contrabass will be played by the other members of the quartet.
The concert will start at 8pm at 24 Trang Tien Street. — VNS
