HA NOI (VNS) — Pupils from primary and junior schools in the country will enjoy attending a film festival that will be held from October 11 to December 6.

The Science Film Festival will open on Sunday at Kim Dong Cinema in Ha Noi, with many activities for children and parents.

A selection of 13 short science films from Germany, the Philippines, Thailand and the United Kingdom, besides Canada will be screened to raise scientific awareness among young people in both urban and rural areas.

At the opening ceremony, four short films will offer insights into the laws of nature, environment protection and light phenomena such as how rainbows occur and how light pollutes the environment.

On Monday, school activities will be launched at the Le Quy Don School in Ha Noi.

On both days, visitors can view short films, do hands-on experiments and play games on the subject of light.

The festival is part of the International Year of Light 2015 celebrations, launched by the United Nations to explore the importance of light and light-based technologies for humanity and our planet.

The films will be screened in schools in eight provinces and cities of Ha Noi, Vinh Phuc, Thai Nguyen and Thai Binh, besides Da Nang, Quang Nam-Hoi An, Dak Lak and HCM City from December 6.

On October 18 and November 8, both Sundays, activity days will be held at the Goethe Institute in Ha Noi.

Children, adolescents and adults are invited to participate and discover science and technology with their own hands.

The festival has been organised in Viet Nam since 2011. For more information, visit the Goethe Institute website's events page. — VNS
