HA NOI — Finnish choral group Dominante will perform in Ha Noi for the first time tomorrow as part of their Asia tour.
"Consisting of youthful, dynamic and dedicated musicians... Dominante will consolidate the cultural bridge between Finland and Viet Nam," said Finnish Ambassador to Viet Nam Kimmo Lehdevirta.
Founded in 1975 as a student choir on the campus of the Helsinki University of Technology, the groups now consists mostly of students of Aalto University, the University of Helsinki and the Sibelius Academy.
Over three decades, Dominante has developed a versatile repertoire ranging from traditional to contemporary choral music. The group has appeared on over 20 recordings and received the Record of the Year award from the Finnish Choral Directors Association in 2009 for its recording entitled Lempea.
In 2010, Dominante participated in recordings of the complete works of Jean Sibelius for the BIS label in performances that were critically acclaimed across Europe.
Smaller units of the group, quartets and quintets, have aslo won prizes in national contests. The choir tours internationally every year and has visited countries on every continent.
The Ha Noi performance will take place tomorrow at 8pm at the Youth Theatre, 11 Ngo Thi Nham Street. Complimentary tickets are available at the Embassy of Finland, 21 Hai Ba Trung Street, 6th Floor, or at the Department of Performing Arts on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street. — VNS
