DA NANG (VNS) — Thousands of locals joined the annual fish-worshipping festival yesterday, the 16th day of the first lunar month, in Thanh Khe Village.
The annual festival is an indispensable part of life in the village, which has a population of 4,000, 80 per cent of whom are fishermen.
The village's biggest festival, first held in 1893, aims to win favour with the sea god.
During the celebration yesterday, fishermen competed in folk games, weaved fishing nets, participated in the coracle race, ate and looked at displays of books and documents on Viet Nam's sea and island sovereignty. — VNS
