SINGAPORE (VNS)— Viet Nam gained a boost to its burgeoning reputation as a tourism hub after Ha Noi, HCM City, Hoi An and Ha Long were all listed in Asia's Top 25 Destinations list, receiving the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice: Asia Destination Awards 2013.
A ceremony to honour the Top 25 Destinations in Asia of TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site, will be held in Singapore tomorrow.
The fifth annual awards recognise 412 outstanding destinations in 38 markets across the globe.
The Travellers' Choice Destinations awards honour top travel spots worldwide based on millions of reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor users.
Winners were determined based on the popularity of destinations, taking into account travellers' chosen favourites and the highest rated places.
Ha Noi ranks 14th in the list, followed by HCM City 15th, Hoi An 17th, and Ha Long in 25th.
Reviewing Viet Nam's top-ranked city, TripAdvisor writes on its website: "The charming Vietnamese capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarter, monuments and colonial architecture, while making room for modern developments alongside. Ha Noi may have shrugged off several former names, including Thang Long, or "ascending dragon", but it hasn't forgotten its past, as sites such as Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and Hoa Lo Prison attest. Lakes, parks, shady boulevards and more than 600 temples and pagodas add to the appeal of this city, which is easily explored by taxi."-VNS
