HAI PHONG (VNS) — Over 500 photos, mainly black-and-white, depicting the French architectural imprint on Hai Phong's urban development are on display in the northern port city, as part of activities celebrating the 40th anniversary of Viet Nam's and France's diplomatic ties.
The exhibits paint a picture of the city since 1874, with French-styled office buildings, banks, villas and cultural facilities, such as the municipal Opera House and port.
"The exhibits provide precious documents, which will help scientists continue their research about, and specify the time, that the city was established," said Dr Hoang Van Ke, head of the Hai Phong Union of Science and Technology Associations. "They also provide valuable historical lessons for young people."
Co-hosted by the Viet Nam-France Friendship Association and the Hai Phong Association of Architects, the display will continue until January 5, 2014. — VNS
