HCM CITY (VNS) — The French Institute in Viet Nam will present a jazz concert by French duo Emile Parisien and Vincent Peirani on September 17 at Saigon Ranger bar in HCM City and on September 19 at L'Espace in Ha Noi.
With their musical union of a soprano saxophone and an accordion, Parisien and Peirani have performed all over Europe, drawing on the best jazz traditions – think Duke Ellington, Sidney Bechet – and experimentation.
In their first album as a duo, Belle Epoque, they improvised and responded to each other, interpreting two little-known works of Sidney Bechet, one of the first important soloists in jazz and the first notable jazz saxophonist.
In June this year Peirani won the 2015 Victoires du Jazz Award for "Best Artist of the Year" of the after having been named "Best New Artist of the Year" in 2014.
He is also a winner of the Django Reinhardt Prize conferred by the Academie du Jazz.
Parisien won the 2014 Victoires du Jazz Award for "Best Artist of the Year".
This will be the duo's first performance in Viet Nam.
Tickets priced at VND160,000, and VND80,000 for students, are available at ticketbox.vn and L'Espace. — VNS
