HCM CITY (VNS)— One of the most acclaimed singers in France, the father of hits in 60s and 70s, Christophe, will come to Viet Nam for the first time and perform at a charity concert to raise funds for street children.
Christophe, whose real name is Daniel Bevilacqua, will visit HCM City on November 18 and perform on November 23 at the Christophe Live Concert held by NGO Poussieres de Vie with the support of the French Consulate in HCM City, according to Fabrice Mauries, Consul General.
Mauries said Viet Nam is one stop on Christophe's world Intime Tour.
"He has never visited here, but his music has been in the heart of Vietnamese for so long. Many of his works have been translated into Vietnamese and sung in this country," Mauries said.
His performance here is mostly to help the Poussieres de Vie. "Hence, the concert has humanitarian significance," he said.
Patrick Desir, chairman of Poussieres de Vie, said Christophe would play piano, synthesiser and guitar in presenting 20 works of his rich repertoire of 50 years of a musical career next Saturday at Hoa Binh Theatre.
"He will set the crowd on fire with his favourite songs, his first hit Aline, as well as Les Marionnettes and Les Mots Bleus," he said.
Vietnamese singers Elvis Phuong, My Linh and Dong Lan will also sing.
"The programme has not been finalised, but there will be a dual performance of Christophe and a guest singer," Desir said.
"Christophe also requested that someone here teach him how to play a traditional instrumental Vietnamese piece," he added.
Tickets can be be obtained by emailing to tickets@poussieresdevie.org or calling 0934 147424 (Ms Tuong Vy). Ticket proceeds will go to Poussieres de Vie projects for children in need in Viet Nam.
Founded in 2002, Poussieres de Vie, French for "Dust of Life", a local phrase describing Vietnamese children, is an independent, values-based non-profit, non-religious and non-political organisation.
Its aim is to ensure lasting change in the lives of children in need and their communities through funding and managing a variety of projects in education, health, micro-businesses, culture preservation and farming in both HCM City and Kon Tum Province. — VNS
