DA NANG (VNS)— As many as 150 amateurs will compete in the Binh Thuan-Ba Ria-Vung Tau Friendship Golf Tournament at Sea Links and Ocean Dunes clubs on Saturday and Sunday, chairman of the Binh Thuan Golf Association Tran Thanh Hiep said yesterday.

Golfers are set to test their skills across an 18-hole knock-out round for the men's and women's singles and team events at two golf courses – the Sea Links in Vung Tau City and the Ocean Dunes in Phan Thiet.

The singles event will see golfers playing in four groups with handicaps of Zero-12; 13-20, 21-28 and a women's group. The top three from each group will receive prizes from the organising committee.

The best three competitors during the first day are eligible to play in the team event on the second day.

It's the first time a golf tournament has been organised between the two associations of Binh Thuan and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

During a practice session last Sunday, amateur Tran Tien Thanh from Phan Thiet City hit a hole-in-one at Ocean Dunes in Binh Thuan Province.

Thanh, 41, had a 148-yard shot at the 9th hole using a wood number 3 during the practice session for club members.

He is the 26th golfer to sink a hole-in-one at the beachside golf club since 1996.

The par-3, hole No 9, at Ocean Dunes Golf Club has been selected as one of the ‘Best 500 Holes in the World' by USA-based publication Golf Magazine.

The course, which was designed by Nick Faldo, is an outstanding natural site with sand dunes, sea breezes and fantastic sea views. — VNS
