HA NOI (VNS) — Several cultural and entertainment programmes have been cancelled or postponed due to the national mourning in memory of General Vo Nguyen Giap.
In Ha Noi, the contemporary music festival Oh La La featuring popular Vietnamese and French singers and bands which was scheduled to take place in the Hang Day Stadium on Saturday has been cancelled.
The French Embassy made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday in Ha Noi.
"I regret to say that the music festival won't happen as planned because of the artists' schedules. However, there is a long list of other cultural activities that will be held this year during the France Year in Viet Nam," said French Ambassador Jean-Noel Poirier.
Among the other cancellations is the CAMA Music Festival, which was scheduled for Saturday.
Hosted by the Ha Noi's first independent music promoter CAMA, the event was expected to be Indochina's biggest international music festival, featuring bands from Australia, Germany, India, Singapore and Brazil. Those who have bought advanced tickets for the event can claim full refunds at the place of purchase.
In HCM City, the electronic experimental music concert Sieste Electroniques, which was scheduled to be held at Tao Dan Park on Saturday, has been cancelled.
However, the same concert in Ha Noi will take place on October 19 at Thong Nhat Park.
The 2013 National Circus Gala taking place at HCM City's Hoa Binh Theatre over the weekend will be cut to just one show on Sunday night. Fifty circus artists from across the country have gathered to perform at this event.
The music gala Am Nhac va Buoc Nhay (Music and Dancing Steps), scheduled to start at 8.30pm on Saturday night at the Lan Anh Music Centre, will be postponed until November 7.
Performances of Cind-erella by the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera have been adjusted due to the national funeral, with Saturday night's show moved back to Monday.
Those who have bought tickets for the Saturday show can contact the ticket counter for other options.
Several reality TV shows scheduled to be broadcast live on Saturday and Sunday will also be delayed by one week, including So You Think You Can Dance, Viet Nam's Next Top Model, The Voice Viet Nam and Got To Dance. — VNS
