THUA THIEN-HUE — German conservation experts plan to help restore the interior of Hue's citadel's Ta Vu Pavilion, which was used for administrative functions and festivals, according to Phan Thanh Hai, director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre.

The two-year project, which will cost 140,000 euros (US$201,000), is the fourth funded by Germany's international support programme.

Ta Vu, which was constructed in the 19th century, was used by court mandarins for administrative activities and the King's high-ranking consultants. In addition, royal examinations and banquets were held in the pavilion.

The interior was ornately decorated, but the pavilion was badly damaged during wars.

The restoration work will be carried out in collaboration with the Association of Cultural Heritage Conservation.

In addition, local artists and interior designers will be trained in artwork preservation.
