Grandmaster Le Quang Liem

HA NOI (VNS)-- Vietnamese Grandmaster Le Quang Liem has been promoted to third ranking in Asia and 31st in the world, according to the International Chess Federation.

After his remarkable performance in the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess competition early last month, Liem jumped nine places.

In Asia he is behind Indian Viswanathan Anand who ranks sixth and Wang Hao of China, 16th.

Teammate Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son is 109th in the world.

Female player Pham Le Thao Nguyen, 51st, is the only Vietnamese woman in the top 100. -- VNS
