HA NOI – Phan Thi Ha Thanh's bronze medal in the vault at the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Competition and her qualification for the London Olympics has been selected as "a remarkable event of the year" by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The 20-year-old won three gold medals at the Southest Asian Games which just finished in Indonesia.
Swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc also appears on the list of 10 most remarkable events after winning two gold medals and setting a new Games record in the men's 100m butterfly, exceeding the B standard for the Olympics.
The ministry also recognises Viet Nam's achievement at the Games as an outstanding event. The athletes won 96 gold, 92 silver and 100 bronze medals, putting Viet Nam in third place after Indonesia and Thailand.
