HA NOI (VNS) — Ha Noi audiences will be able to enjoy a selection of the best Italian movies for a week from today.
Twelve award-wining movies will be screened during the MovieMov, the first Italian film festival in Viet Nam.
According to MovieMov's Art Director, Goffredo Bettini, the event introduces different movie genres, from comedy to crime, from romance to feature.
"However, all the movies are about current social issues that every modern society is dealing with," he said.
Speaking at a press conference in Ha Noi yesterday, Italian Ambassador Cecilia Piccioni said: "As Alfred Hitchcock said: 'The cinema is not a slice of life, but a piece of cake.' We would also like to offer Ha Noi audiences the best pieces of cake that we have."
The film event will start with the screening of the movie Allacciate Le Cinture (Fasten Your Seatbelts) with the attendance of star actress Valeria Solarion, who plays in the Smetto Quando Voglio (I Can Quit Whenever I Want), which will also be presented during the week.
The movies, will be screened at CGV Cinema, Level 6, Vincom Center Ba Trieu, 191 Ba Trieu Street from July 22 to 25, and at the Ha Noi Cinematheque, 22A Hai Ba Trung Street on July 26. Entrance is free of charge.
Four Vietnamese designers, Hung Viet, Quang Nhat, Vu Tran Duc Hai and Ha Duy, will debut creations inspired from movies screened during the week.
Viet will present designs inspired by the movie I Can Quit Whenever I Want, while Nhat will showcase ones inspired by the movie Maraviglioso Boccaccio (Wondrous Boccaccio).
The movies Noi E La Giulia (Julia and Us) and Fasten Your Seatbelts have provided creative ideas for Hai and Duy.
The event will also include a fashion exhibition initiated by Stefano Dominella – chairman of the famous atelier Maison Gattinoni.
Entitled The Exquisiteness of Gastronomy, Tales about Gastronomy and Fashion, the Ha Noi exhibition is a part of a much bigger show that is taking place in Mercati Traianei in Roma.
According to Dominella, who attended a press conference in Ha Noi yesterday, the exhibition is a vivid example showing the close connection between fashion and gastronomy, or nutrition and stability.
"It also present the creative ability of Italian and Vietnamese designers as well as other world famous designer," he said.
The exhibition, which will open at 5pm at the Casa Italia, 18 Le Phung Hieu Street, will introduce the designs from collection Natural Couture by Tiziano Guardini, who is dubbed as "the Designer of Nature".
All his creations not only used natural materials but also come from environmental friendly ideas.
Designer Italo Marseglia, whose superstructure designs have been based on math – a school subject that he earlier hated, will showcase his Nuvola collection.
Inspired from spaghetti and the fork, jewellery designer Gianni de Benedittis will display his Couture a la carte collection.
Two Vietnamese designers Hung Viet and Quang Nhat will join Italian designers at this exhibition.
While Viet will unveil the creations inlaid with thousands of mother-of-pearl pieces, Nhat will showcase dresses that he created from recycled materials such as straw hats or camera cases.
Especially, Dominella and Vietnamese veteran designer Minh Hanh will conduct a master class on fashion for young Vietnamese people who are keen on the topic. The free entrance class will take place at Casa Italia tomorrow.
The free entry fashion exhibition will open until August 19. — VNS
