Lecture, field trip to look at rice growers
Friends of Vietnam Heritage (FVH) – an informal group of Ha Noi's residents from many countries working voluntarily to promote and preserve Vietnamese cultural and historical heritage – will host an English-speaking lecture and excursion on the theme of rice growing on Saturday, June 16. Literary series hosts last event for summer
Noi Hanoi will have its fourth instalment on Sunday, June 17.
Local poets, fiction writers, storytellers and performers will be sharing their work around the theme of "Shades" in the last of these monthly events before taking a break for summer. Participants range from the absurd to the profound, from morbid to humorous. In the process of becoming a bilingual event, Noi Hanoi has been collecting a balance of Vietnamese and English readings that provide some insight into Ha Noi's diverse communities.

Indie rock band holds CD release party
Brett Newski and The Corruption will celebrate the release of their first CD, Saigon at Night, with a party at the Hard Rock Cafe tomorrow.
The Saigon-based trio comprises British drummer ‘Mean' Matt Green, Canadian bassist Jeffro Gantner, and American vocalist/guitarist Brett Newski.
The show will begin at 9.30pm at 39 Le Duan Street in District 1.
Cocktail master class with Richie Fawcett
Richie Fawcett, a bartender from England who is operations director at the Koh Thai Cocktail Lounge, will give a cocktail master class every Saturday, beginning on Saturday, June 16.

BBQ fundraiser to benefit city shelters
ILA Community Network, a charity component of ILA education and training community, will host a backyard BBQ fundraising party at KOTO, which is located at 151A Hai Ba Trung Street in District 3, on Sunday, June 17.
The event, beginning at 7.30pm, will offer BBQ food, drinks, live music and a lucky draw. Admission is VND300,000 per person.
Proceeds of the event will go towards renovating the kitchen and bedrooms of two shelters – the Hoa Hong Nho Shelter in District 7 and the Tre Xanh Shelter in District 1 – to avoid flooding during the rainy season.
Filipino artists hold exhibition in HCM City
The works of an all-Filipino artist group are being presented at an exhibition called Pinoy Ako in HCM City as part of the Philippines Independence Day celebrations.
The exhibition showcases works of more than 30 Filipino artists in the city and abroad.
The works are on display at the HCM City Fine Arts Museum till today; at Hotel Equatorial from June 15-17; and at the International Asiana Saigon and Geisha Cafe from June 18-23. — VNS
