HA NOI (VNS) — Two additional tournament records were set at the National Youth Shooting Championships in Ha Noi yesterday, according to officials.
Nguyen Thi Hoan of the host team shot 366 points in the women's 10-metre running target individual event at the National Sports Training Centre yesterday. Her score smashed the old record of 350 points by military shooter Nguyen Thi Thuan Anh in 2011.
Le Thi My Chung from Dak Lak came second and Le Thi My Linh, another Ha Noi markswoman, placed third.
With two finishers in the top three, Ha Noi easily won the team event title, with a total score of 1,044, which is also a new record. The old record of 956 points had been set four years ago by residents from the capital.
The Dak Lak and Military squads placed second and third, respectively.
In the women's 50-metre rifle prone individual event, Vu Thi Hai of Thanh Hoa scored 582 points for the top position. Nguyen Thi Ngan of Vinh Phuc and Duong Thi Luyen from Ha Noi finished behind her.
Thanh Hoa also secured a gold medal at the team event. The silver went to Ha Noi, and Quang Ninh took home the bronze. Dong Nai shooters grabbed the last two gold medals of the day in the women's 10-meter air pistol category.
Teammates Phan Thi Phuong Thuy, Vo Thi Ngoc Diu and Le Thi Nga shared the top three positions in the individual class. They then took the podium again for the team pool event.
Three days later, Ha Noi replaced HCM City as the leader of the medal tally. The hosts have earned five gold medals. Dong Nai are in second place, with four titles, and HCM City, whose marksmen did not win yesterday, are in third place, with three wins. — VNS
