HCM CITY — An exhibition displaying hundreds of documents, objects and photos of late President Ho Chi Minh with the Vietnamese people's armed forces opened on Friday at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in HCM City.
The exhibition is divided into three sections entitled "Uncle Ho – Father of the Vietnamese People's Armed Forces", "He is the Belief of Certain Victory", and "To Study and Work Following His Moral Example".
Delta belle competes in Tourism Queen pageant
HA NOI — Le Huynh Thuy Ngan will represent Viet Nam in the Miss Tourism Queen International 2011 pageant, which runs until December 29 in China.
Ngan, 20, was born in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Tien Giang. A student in HCM City, she has won many prizes in domestic beauty contests and participated in several films.
The pageant has attracted 105 contestants worldwide. Ngan said she would take full advantage of the occasion to promote the country's culture and tourism.
500-year-old tree honoured in Bac Ninh Province
BAC NINH — A 500-year-old thi (a kind of persimmon) tree in Yen Phong District, in the northern province of Bac Ninh, has been recognised as a Viet Nam Heritage Tree.
The evergreen is 25m-high and is the pride and glory of the temple in Ngo Noi Village.
US fund helps restore wooden artefacts
THAI BINH — The United States Embassy's Fund for Cultural Preservation and Thai Binh Provincial Museum is sponsoring the restoration of red-lacquer trimmed wooden religious artefacts dating from the 17th to the 19th centuries in the northern province of Thai Binh.
Ambassador David Shear said the project emphasised the close co-operation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of culture and religion. — VNS
