HO CHI MINH CITY (VNS) — HCM City won the National Team Tennis Championships for the third straight year yesterday, setting a national record.
On the final day of the championship held in Hue, the HCM City men's team beat Ca Mau 2-1 in a thriller.
In the first singles match, Pham Huu Vinh of HCM City lost 5-7, 1-6 to Ngo Quang Huy of Ca Mau.
Vinh's teammate, national first runner-up Nguyen Hoang Thien, levelled the result after his rival Lam Quang Tri withdrew because of injury. The scores were level at 6-7, 7-6.
In the decisive doubles match, HCM City also saw one of the Ca Mau players suffer stomach cramps and fail to continue, forcing Ca Mau to settle for the silver medal.
The Da Nang 1 and Military 1 teams shared the third place.
