KIEN GIANG (VNS)— A memorial house to commemorate hero Nguyen Trung Truc (1839-68) was inaugurated on Saturday in Rach Gia city, after one year of construction.
The 250sq.m house located in Kien Giang province was designed as a temple and displays memorabilia, documents and images to honour the hero's personality and career as a leader of many uprisings against the French invaders, in the south of Viet Nam.
Truc and his troops occupied were responsible for rescuing many southern provinces from enemy control. When the French sentenced him to death, his last words "if the French eradicated all grass on our land then we, Vietnamese people, would stop fighting against them" have been immortalised in Viet Nam's history.
Artefacts and objects displayed throughout the house paint a vivid picture of history and allow visitors to gain an insight into this important figure who was renowned for his spirited patriotism.-VNS
