International Photography Awards (HIPA).
A photo showing a class being held in a remote mountainous area in China won the Grand Prize in the Creating Future category at the Hamdan International Photography Awards (HIPA).
Chinese photographer Fuyang Zhou received a cash prize of US$120,000 for the photo at an award ceremony held in Dubai on March 17.
Established by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the HIPA awards attract entries by talented photographers from across the globe, and also encourages participation by local talents to attract global cultural interest. The award also highlights the fast development of Dubai as one of the most artistically conscious and established cities in the world.
The 2013-2014 contest, which was launched between March and December 2013, received more than 38,000 entries by more than 26,000 photographers from 151 countries and territories. The works were submitted in four categories, namely Creating Future, Street Life, Black and White and General.
The focus of the 2014-2015 contest will be Life in Colour and will have four categories: Life in Colour, General/Entrants choice, Face and Night Photography.
