HA NOI (VNS)— Viet Nam's first ever opera, entitled Co Sao (Ms Sao), is to be re-staged to celebrate the 90th birthday of its composer, the late Do Nhuan.
The production will be staged by the Viet Nam National Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Viet Nam Symphony Orchestra.
Co Sao is about a young ethnic Thai woman who is exiled to a lonely life deep in the jungle. There she meets many Vietnamese patriots who are imprisoned there by the French colonists. They awaken revolutionary ideas in her, and bring purpose to her life.
The opera is expected to be presented to audiences by the end of next month.
The original version made its debut at the Ha Noi Opera House on September 2, 1965 – the 20th anniversary of the Viet Nam Democratic Republic.-VNS
