HCM CITY  ( VNS) —  Singer Hoa Mi will stage a solo performance in HCM City next week at a special show for fans after 27 years of living away from her native land.

Mi will perform with her younger colleagues, Chung Tu Luu, Quynh Lan and Xuan Phu.

Around 2,000 people are expected to attend the show called Tro Ve Mai Nha Xua (Back Home), which will begin at 8pm at the Hoa Binh Theatre.

Mi will sing love songs by composer Hoang Thi Tho, Y Van and Diep Minh Tuyen that shot her to fame in the 1970s and 80s.

The 60-year-old Vietnamese-French artist said she would try her best to win over fans.

"I left Viet Nam in 1988, but my love for music is still here," said Mi during a press conference held in the city last week.

The show's highlights will also include some French songs.

Her live show will be televised on Viet Nam Televis-ion's VTV9.

Born in then Sai Gon (now HCM City) in 1955, Mi showed her talent in music when she was at school.

She began her professional career before graduating from the Sai Gon National Music and Theatre College in 1974.

After national reunification in 1975, she worked for the Kim Cuong Troupe and travelled to perform in many places at home and abroad.

After settling in France, she worked with music producers and entertainment agencies and performed on many albums and videos.

In late 2009, Mi returned to HCM City to record three albums produced by Phuong Nam Film.

The albums, which featured popular songs by musicians like Hoang Thi Tho and Pham Duy, were received warmly by fans.

In 2010, she and her ex-husband, saxophonist Le Tan Quoc, performed in Mot Mai Em Di (One Day I Leave), a production released by entertainment agency Saigon Vafaco.

Her show Tro Ve Mai Nha Xua will be held on Saturday, June 13, at Hoa Binh Theatre, District 1. — VNS
