Viet Nam have won six silvers at the prestigious 6th Sanda World Cup slated in Fujian Province in China.
Viet Nam sent seven martial artists to the World Wushu Federation-sanctioned tournament event and six of them reached the final rounds.
The event attracted the participation of 19 teams including the hosts China, the US, Japan, Thailand, Viet Nam, Chinese Taipei, Turmenistan, Mexico and Germany.
Tuan and Nam pip German rivals in badminton clash
Do Duc Tuan and Pham Hong Nam beat Johannes Pistorius and Marvin Emil Seidel of Germany 21-18, 21-19 in the men's doubles at the Individual Championships of the 2012 Yonex World Junior Badminton Championships in Chiba, Japan yesterday.
In the women's doubles, Le Thu Huyen and Pham Nhu Thao defeated Singapore's Yi Ling Elaine Chua and Jia Min Yeo.
In the mixed doubles, Pham Cao Cuong and Nguyen Thuy Linh lost to Robin Tabeling and Myke Halkema of the Netherlands 21-14, 21-14. Meanwhile Do Duc Tuan and Le Thu Huyen trounced Dede Ryan Philip and Erica Pei Shan Khoo of Malaysia 21-19, 19-21, 21-12.
The individual event will last until this Saturday.
Seeded Minh to face Ouseph first up at China Open
Viet Nam's top player Nguyen Tien Minh is seeded No 7 at the Li Ning China Open 2012 on November 13-18 in Shanghai, China.
The top three seeds in the tournament are Chen Long and Chen Jin of China and Simon Santoso of Indonesia.
According to a draw result published by the World Badminton Federation yesterday, Minh will play against Rajiv Ouseph from England in the first round. The Vietnamese player and his rival have climbed one step in the latest world rankings. Minh now ranks No 10 while Ouseph is in 27th place.
If he defeats the English player, Minh will go on to compete against the winner of the match between Sweden's Henri Hurskainen and India's Parupalli Kashyap. — VNS
