Honour for 'green' journalists


Nguyen Thanh Ha from Viet Nam News is among seven journalists from Viet Nam, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, emerge as country winners for the Siemens Green Technology Journalism Award 2013.

HA NOI (VNS) — Nguyen Thanh Ha from Viet Nam News is among seven journalists from Viet Nam, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, emerge as country winners for the Siemens Green Technology Journalism Award 2013.

These winners have been recognised for their exemplary media reports on issues relating to how the application of green technology to handle climate change, demographic change, globalisation and urbanisation.

Ha's article Remote villages switch to wind power, discussed wind energy issues. It has received the highest score from the local jury for demonstrating how green technology has helped improve people's life and provide answers to the challenges of megatrends such as climate change.

The jury included two external judges, Ha Minh Hue, first vice president of the Viet Nam Journalists' Association and Nguyen Xuan Hoang Viet, dean of Ha Noi University of Science and Technology's School of Electrical Engineering. There were also two judges from Siemens Viet Nam.

Ha wins a cash prize and a trip to London for the award ceremony, where she will also participate in the C40&Siemens City Climate Leadership Awards&Conference on September 4.

Ha's work will be also considered for Category B of the competition – Siemens ASEAN-Pacific Green Technology Journalism Award 2013. The winner of Category B will be announced at the award ceremony in London on September 3.

The first Siemens Green Technology Journalism Award was held in 2010.

This year, the company received more than 170 submissions from the region.

The award ceremony will bring together winners from journalism competitions organised by Siemens in Africa, Egypt, and Latin America. — VNS
