Five Vietnamese athletes earned their tickets to the semi-final round of the International Tennis Federation's Asia 14&Under Development Championships – Division 2 in HCM City yesterday.

HA NOI (VNS)– Five Vietnamese athletes earned their tickets to the semi-final round of the International Tennis Federation's Asia 14&Under Development Championships – Division 2 in HCM City yesterday.

The No 1 seed Tyffany Linh Nguyen faced no difficulty beating Kamdar Ruhi of Singapore 6-3, 6-4 in the girls' competition. Tyffany will play Irani Vaziri Sadaf Sadegh today.

Her teammate Nguyen Thu Phuong, No 4, defeated Goh Yee Loon, another Singaporean, 6-4, 6-2. She will meet Al Olifi Shaema of Yemen in the other semi-final match.

In the boys' draw, defending champion and No 1 Nguyen Dac Tien overcame Yemen's Fahmi Alward 6-1 in the first set and led 4-0 in the second before Alward retired due to injury.

Tien will play No 5 seed Janahi from the United Arab Emirates.

Meanwhile Nguyen Mau Vinh Quang trounced Khan Mohammad Mahin of Bhutan 6-3, 6-3 and Tu Minh Tri won 6-1, 6-1 over Law Tzeming of Singapore. Quang and Tri will play an all-Vietnamese semi-final match.

Tyffany and Tien, who were paired in the mixed doubles event, also grabbed a spot in the semis. – VNS
