HA NOI (VNS)– Short film The Call by the Colorista group won Best Movie in Take 5, an annual competition for filmmakers living in Viet Nam.
The competition, launched nationwide one month ago by the 48 Hour Film Project and Al Fresco's Group, required participants to make a five-minute film about the adventures of a restaurant deliveryman trying to make his food delivery on time.
The group of seven young filmmakers won VND21 million (US$1,000) for their winning film, the heartwarming story of two homeless girls who want a pizza for their birthday. Since they can't afford it, they plan a frightful scene to scare the delivery man with the goal of stealing a pizza from him. But when the apprentice deliveryman understands the situation, he decides to pay for the pizza and enjoys a small party with the girls. Although he returns to work late, his manager approves of his actions and hires him full-time.
The film project offers a unique opportunity for filmmakers around Viet Nam to make innovative, imaginative and inspirational short films around the unlikely scenario of food delivery, said Ross Stewart, representative of the organising board.
"It aims to provide opportunities and exposure for filmmakers, emphasise creativity and teamwork and engage with the filmmaking community," he said. – VNS
