HA NOI (VNS) — Nguyen Thi Mai Hung ranked fifth at the end of the second event of the "Chess for Girls Asia" series in HCM City yesterday.
Padmini Rout of India took the top spot, followed by Aulia Medina Warda of Indonesia and Enkhtuul Altan-Ulzii of Mongolia.
The other Vietnamese players, Hoang Thi Nhu Y and Le Hoang Tran Chau, finished in the eighth and 10th place, respectively.
Ten young players from seven nations, including India, Indonesia, Iran and Viet Nam, participated in the two-day US$8,200 event.
The first event took place last week at Geneva's Webster University campus, while the final event will take place from July 11 to 15 at the University's home campus in St. Louis, Missouri.
The world-class event aims to promote and further women's chess and to provide opportunities to learn and compete to some of Asia's finest young female chess talents. — VNS
