HA NOI (VNS)— Cyclist Mai Nguyen Hung won the second stage of the ADC Tour of Viet Nam yesterday.
Hung, from the Eximbank HCM City team, clocked a top speed of 40.670kmh during the 196km stage from Rach Gia City's O Mon District to Can Tho City in a time of 5:17.11.
Huang En of China's Max Success Sports team and Chan Yat Wai of China's Hong Kong finished second and third.
The win gave Hung the race leader's yellow jersey with a total time of 8:51.07, followed by Huang and Chan.
"Our rivals are very strong so my teammates and I are determined to secure top spot in the team event. I am very glad to win this stage. It proves that Vietnamese cyclists can win at an international event," said Hung.
Choi Ki Ho of Hong Kong won the first stage on Monday.
Hong Kong lead the team event, followed by Eximbank HCM City and the Philippines' 7 Eleven team.
Today, 13 foreign and eight local teams will pedal for the 133km third stage from Can Tho to Soc Trang City and back again.
The five-stage event, an official week long event endorsed by the International Cycling Union, offers generous prize money to the winners. — VNS
