Nguyen Thi Mai Hung beat Diana Carime Real Pereyra from Mexico in the third round of the women's U18 event at the World Youth Chess Championships in Slovenia on Saturday.
With two wins and one draw, Hung now has 2.5 points. In the fourth round, she will play Meri Arabidze of Georgia, who has the highest Elo rating in women's event in the tournament.
In the men's U16 event, Le Tuan Minh beat Giacomo Gregori of Italy while Tran Tuan Minh lost to Olexandr Bortnyk of Ukraine in the third round. Both of them have two points and will meet Gary Giroyan of France and Nikoloz Kumsiashvili of Georgia, respectively, in the next round.
Tran Minh Thang and Nguyen Dang Hong Phuc will struggle for another win in the fourth round in the men's U12 event. Except for a win in the first round, Thang had two draws to get two points while Phuc had one draw and one loss to take 1.5 points.
The tournament will wrap up on Sunday.-VNS
