HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese chess player Nguyen Quoc Hy won the eighth match at the ongoing World Youth and Cadets Chess Championships in Greece.
Hy defeated Tadic Stefan of Serbia after 53 moves.
After eight matches, Hy has 6.5 points and ranks eighth in the boy's U10 category.
Wang Justin of the United States is leading with seven points, followed by Oglaza Oskar of Poland with seven points and Praggnanandhaa R of India with 6.5 points.
The ranks of chess players who share the same points are different because of their different auxiliary indexes.
Hy will next meet arch rival Chinguun Sumiya of Mongolia.
Meanwhile, after sharing points in the seventh match, Tran Tuan Minh gained an important victory in the eighth match to rank among the event's top 10 players in the boys' U18 division.
Minh beat Jarmula Lukasz of Poland after 38 moves to rank seventh with six points. Mosadeghpour Masoud of Iran topped the category with 7.5 points.
Alekseenko Kirill of Russia came second with seven points, while Kirill's teammate Yuffa Daniil was placed third with 6.5 points.
In the next round, Minh will face Russia's Faizrakhmanov Ramil, who is placed fourth with six points.
